Seats. New Relic bills every engineer who needs the full console as a full-platform user: $10 for the first and $99 each after that on Standard, which admits at most 5; from the 6th engineer the team moves to Pro at $349 per user with an annual commitment. Polartrace has no seat meter on any plan, so a team of 8 pays the same as a team of one: the Growth fee plus data and hosts over the included allowance.

When is New Relic cheaper?

When few people need full access and the fleet is large. New Relic charges nothing per host and includes 100 GB of data a month free on every edition, so a team of one or two engineers running many hosts under 100 GB can pay less on New Relic Standard than on Polartrace Growth. The crossover is the 5-user Standard ceiling: past it, every extra engineer costs $349 a month.

What happens when I go over my allowance?

Polartrace paid plans are never ingest-blocked: overage bills at the published per-GB and per-host rates, you get alerts at 80%, 100% and 150% of allowance, your first overage invoice is waived, and you can set a spend cap that pauses ingest instead of billing you. New Relic bills data over the free 100 GB at $0.40/GB with budget alerts but no hard cap on the usage plan.
